Practical notes
- Charged per person aged 18 or over per night. The regulation applies from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2031.
- Licensed holiday homes fall under a separate regulation with the same amount per guest (€3.75 per person aged 18 or over per night in 2026-2027, €5 from 2028), plus a yearly flat amount paid by the owner.
- Bruges has announced a charge for cruise and coach day visitors from 2027 (reported by VRT News in March 2025). We have not found an official regulation for it on brugge.be, so we show no amount.
Who collects it: The operator of the accommodation owes the tax (article 3) and declares the overnight stays to the City every quarter; whether it appears separately on your bill depends on the accommodation.
Exemptions (official)
- Children and teenagers under 18
- Non-profit hospitals, clinics and care homes
- Boarding schools
- Facilities rented only to recognised socio-cultural associations (youth, sports, theatre groups and similar)
- Nights booked through social tourism offices (programme 'Iedereen verdient vakantie')
