Mexico tourist tax 2026: Visitax MXN 293.00, DNR MXN 983.00 and cruise fees

Foreign visitors to Quintana Roo (Cancún, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Holbox) pay the Quintana Roo Visitax of MXN 293.00 per person from 1 February 2026: 2.50 UMA under article 51-Octies of the Quintana Roo Law on Fees, with the 2026 UMA of MXN 117.31 published by INEGI (law and UMA checked on 30 October 2026). It is due when you enter the state, for every foreign visitor whatever their age. From 1 February 2027 it will be 2.50 × the 2027 UMA, which INEGI publishes in January 2027. Foreign tourists also pay Mexico's federal non-resident fee (DNR) of MXN 983.00 in 2026 (Ley Federal de Derechos, article 8): the airline collects it if you fly in, and it is not due for land arrivals staying up to 7 days.

Formula used

Visitax = 2.50 × UMA (daily value in force on your arrival date) × foreign travellers. From 1 February 2026: 2.50 × MXN 117.31 = MXN 293.275, rounded to MXN 293.00 per person. The Quintana Roo Fiscal Code (article 18) rounds amounts to the whole peso for payment (1 to 50 centavos down, 51 to 99 up); the official portal charges MXN 293.00 per person (checked on 30 October 2026). The UMA is updated by INEGI every January and applies from 1 February, so the Visitax changes every 1 February. Children pay the same amount as adults.

Example: 2 travellers pay MXN 586.00 in total.

Not tax advice. These fees are set by Mexican federal and Quintana Roo state law and can change. The official Visitax portal shows the exact amount before you pay.

Questions

How much is the Visitax in 2026?

From 1 February 2026 the Visitax is MXN 293.00 per foreign visitor: 2.50 UMA under article 51-Octies of the Quintana Roo Law on Fees, with the 2026 UMA of MXN 117.31 published by INEGI (2.50 × MXN 117.31 = MXN 293.275, rounded to MXN 293.00).

Do children pay the Visitax?

Yes. The official Visitax portal says there is no adult or child rate: all foreign tourists must pay, whatever their age.

Is Visitax a scam?

No. The Visitax is a real fee set by the law of Quintana Roo, and the official portal is visitax.gob.mx, run by the state tax administration (SATQ). The official fee is MXN 293.00; third-party sites may charge a service fee.

Who collects Mexico's non-resident fee (DNR)?

The DNR is MXN 983.00 in 2026. The Ley Federal de Derechos says that for foreign visitors arriving by air, the international airline collects it and pays it to the tax authority. If you arrive by land and stay no more than 7 days, you do not pay it.

Do cruise passengers pay the Visitax?

No, if they paid the Quintana Roo cruise passenger fee: US$5 per passenger, charged with the cruise ticket (article 51-Nonies). Foreign cruise passengers pay Mexico's federal visitor fee at a reduced amount set by the decree of 30 June 2025: the peso equivalent of US$10 until 30 June 2027, US$15 from 1 July 2027 and US$21 from 1 August 2028 to 30 September 2030 (converted at the Banco de México exchange rate). Re-entering Mexico on the same cruise is free.

How much will the Visitax be in 2027?

From 1 February 2027 it will be 2.50 × the 2027 UMA. INEGI publishes the new UMA in January, and this page updates when it does. Until 31 January 2027 the amount stays at MXN 293.00.
