Balearic Islands tourist licence 2026: the number in every advert
To let a home to tourists in the Balearic Islands you must file a DRIAT, which puts the home on the island's tourism register, and new homes are only allowed in zones declared suitable (Ley 8/2012, arts. 23 and 50, checked on 5 November 2026). All advertising of holiday homes must include the home's tourist registration number (Ley 8/2012, art. 28.3); advertising or marketing stays without it is a very serious offence for the channels that publish it (art. 120 j).

Not legal advice. This page summarises official texts and open data; it does not tell you whether a particular home can be let or keep its registration. Town halls set their own planning rules and communities of owners can restrict tourist use: before you buy, let or advertise, check with the regional tourism department and the Ayuntamiento, or ask a professional.
What the regional rules say
- The host files a declaración responsable de inicio de actividad turística (DRIAT); filing it leads to immediate registration in the island's register (Ley 8/2012, art. 23.6). (Boletín Oficial del Estado)
- Until the number is issued, the entry number of the DRIAT in a public register may be used in adverts (art. 23.7). (Boletín Oficial del Estado)
- New DRIATs for tourist stays in homes can only be filed for homes in zones expressly declared suitable (zonas aptas) or provisionally delimited (art. 50.3). (Boletín Oficial del Estado)
- For homes in buildings under horizontal property, the DRIAT is valid for the period set by regulation, five years by default, renewable while the requirements are still met (art. 50.3). (Boletín Oficial del Estado)
