Compostela Holy Year 2027

2027 is a Compostela Holy Year (Año Santo Compostelano). The Cathedral of Santiago explains that it is a Holy Year when 25 July, the feast of Saint James, falls on a Sunday, as it does in 2027. The ordinance has no special rate for the Holy Year (as of 4 November 2026): the amounts on this page apply. Stays in the public pilgrim hostels run by the Xunta de Galicia and in youth hostels are exempt; other hostels (albergues) charge €1 per guest aged 18 or over per night. The hoteliers' association has challenged the ordinance in court; the High Court of Galicia refused to suspend it (30 September 2025) and will rule on the merits later.

Formula used

Tax = rate per person per night × guests aged 18 or over × taxable nights (maximum 5 taxable nights per stay; no tax on nights before 1 October 2025, when it started).

Example: 2 adults, 3 nights from 5 November 2026, Hotel 5 stars superior → €15.00 in total.

Not tax advice. Tourist taxes are set by local or national authorities and can change. They are usually collected by your hotel or host, who applies the official rules: check the final amount with your accommodation.
